Africa Teen Geeks 2021 Nelson Mandela month activities with the Nelson Mandela Foundation

Africa Teen Geeks (ATG) is committed to educating, inspiring and equipping young people with the skills, resources and experience to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers and close the opportunity gap through quality education. Our drive is to eliminate the barriers faced by the disadvantaged communities in pursuing STEM. It gives us great privilege and honor to announce ATG as a strategic partner supporting the Nelson Mandela Foundation on Mandela Day in action against poverty and foundation programmes for Education.
ATG has joined Nelson Mandela Foundation in harnessing the Each1Feed1 programme for Mandela Day and to develop the 4Cans4MandelaDay campaign. This initiative aims at ensuring that basic foodstuffs reaches the most vulnerable communities this July. In the longer term, Nelson Mandela Foundation is committed to using its research and advocacy capacity to address the systemic issues which causes food insecurity in our country and communities. We believe that getting this right is fundamental to social cohesion and respect for the rule of law.

a) Each1Feed1

Each1Feed1 is a food distribution network programme championed by the Nelson Mandela Foundation that started at the beginning of the lockdown to support families who have been most affected by the challenges of food insecurity. Beneficiaries have included child-headed households, orphaned families, and the elderly, people who are informally employed in the ECD workforce as well as people living with disabilities. The food packs has historically been robust and nutritious, capable of supporting a family of five for at least a month.

On Mandela Day, this year (2021), the Nelson Mandela Foundation will be at the Ikageng Itereleng Aids Ministry, a social welfare centre in Soweto, Johannesburg for another Each1Feed1 distribution. ATG will be making a significant donation of tin foods and it has requested its stakeholders to join and participate, and this request has been well received by our stakeholders.
