The University of Johannesburg and Africa Teen Geeks in partnership with the Department of Basic Education and UNICEF will be hosting a Teacher Training workshop on 30 October 2021.
The aim of the workshop is to enhance teachers’ skills in the implementation of the Coding and Robotics curricula in classrooms. Our hope is to reach as many teachers as possible, especially from under-resourced schools and communities all around Africa. We are geared towards teachers with a range of tech knowledge from very little to advanced, wishing to integrate technology into their classroom.
The introduction of the Coding and Robotics Curriculum was approved by the Council of Education Ministers (CEM) on 08 March 2019. Following the approval of the curriculum and pilot project, we now have an extreme need to provide support to teachers via teacher training activities. This online workshop explores the pedagogical and practical implications related to the teaching of Coding and Robotics. The programme includes presentations on scratch coding, project-based learning and exploring the need to prepare students for future careers in the 4IR. Speakers include Steven Pinto the CEO of CTRL Robotics, Kenneth Baloyi (Lecturer of Childhood education, UJ), Lindiwe Matlali (ATG CEO), Dr. Cerene Rathilal (Mathematics Lecturer at UJ) and more.
